Low-volume-produced statues, in particular numbered small batches are popular among collectors and people who appreciate exclusivity as well as worshippers. The statue in the photo is for example by the venerable Luang Pho Pern, who was abbot of Wat Bang Phra (Nakhon Pathom, Thailand) during his lifetime. Only 299 pieces were casted of this statue and it was colored by hand, each statue has a continuous number. Statues of Buddha, monk statues, Ganeshas and other temples statues are also regarded as Thai amulet, they are called Phra Bucha.
