Phra Sivalee Statue from Wat Traimit Golden Buddha Year 2003

Phra Sivalee Langkawong Pang Dschog Bath Nuea Loha Pasom Ong Phra Pid Thong statue from the venerable Chao Khun Thongchai (also Chao Khun Thong Chai), abbot of Wat Traimit Witthayaram, Charoenkrung Road, Khet Sampan Thawong, Bangkok, Thailand, from the year B.E. 2546 (2003).

The statue was published for the financing of the urgently necessary restoration work of the Wat Traimit.

Wat Traimit is a very insignificant temple which probably every tourist and pedestrian would pass by if it would not accommodate an important treasure.

In Wat Traimit there is the 3.50-metre-high and approx. 700 year-old Golden Sukhothai Buddha, a Buddha statue which exists of 5.5 tonnes of pure gold. Its material value is estimated at approx. 60 million euros!

The statue was discovered in 1956 only by chance. It had to be moved because of construction work on the weight-bearing elements of Wat Traimit, thereby, a rope of the crane ripped and it crashed on the ground. Thereby the external cover, which existed of tone broke and revealed the famous „Golden Buddha“. Up to this time nobody knew, what an unbelievable legacy and property was standing in Wat Traimit. Till this day the origin of the statue is uncleared.

The Bucha statue offered here shows the Phra Phra Sivalee Langkawong on a throne armchair seated, with the Bat (monk-begging bowl) in his hands. The Sivalee was gilt with gold leaf (ong Phra Pid Thong). So that the gold leaf would not get lost in the course of the time, it was covered with varnish or resin.

The back shows the Yahn of Wat Traimit with Pali signs for health, luck, prosperity and protection against misfortune. The stroke is „Phra Sivalee Langkawong Theppachao Hang Chooklap.

The statue is approx. 7.7 cm high, approx. 4.5 cm wide, approx. 3.5 cm deep and approx. 150 grammes.

The statue helps its owner to luck, prosperity, health and a long life without need and harm. It contributes to the fact that its owner never suffers hunger or need and that he lacks nothing. It protects the owner and his home against accidents, illness and misfortune.

The Phra Sivalee is valid not only as a "patron saint" against illness or with illness, but he is also valid as an especially effective luck bringer in financial matters. After the legends Phra Sivalee could give a nice life, luck and prosperity to the people, as well as preserve them from hunger.

When once Buddha proceeded with a big crowd of disciples to the jungle to instruct them in meditation (Nang Samathi), Phra Sivalee joined to them. Far away from the next settlement, in the deepest jungle, Buddha sat down with his disciples.

After some days the provisions for the journey were used up and there was not enough food. Then a disciple asked the enlightened, where from one would receive food, nevertheless, there would be no village whose inhabitants could present to the monks food donations (Takbat). Then Buddha spoke "Do not worry, among us stays Phra Sivalee who will take care by his abilities that nobody will have to suffer hunger. Phra Sivalee called the animals of the jungle to himself, so that these could acquire religious salaries by food donations. The animals came and brought eatable plants, fruits and herbs in abundance so that none of the disciples had to starve.
